Roughly five decades performing with my brothers.
I’m one of the original Knudsen Brothers and a longtime member, co-owner, and producer of SIX in Branson, Missouri.
SIX is a contemporary vocal band made up of six real-life brothers. The music comes from our voices: harmony, vocal percussion, and the other sounds that make people look for the band. There’s comedy, too.
We’re the Branson group, not the Broadway musical.
How it began.
My father started my brothers and me performing before I was old enough to understand myself well enough to choose a career. That beginning became decades of professional entertainment and a family business.
Performing with my brothers became both a career and a family business. The work has extended well beyond the time we spend in front of an audience.
The work around the show.
My work has included singing, writing and producing show material, rehearsing, and handling people and operational responsibilities. There’s a great deal that has to happen before an audience takes its seats.
Working with family adds another dimension. A show brings together the professional relationship and a much longer shared history.
That work gives me plenty to think about: how people get along, how decisions get made, and why a sensible plan doesn’t always survive contact with the people carrying it out. Some of those questions turn up elsewhere on this site.
